The bus model is a simple example to show the effects of poor selection and development – think about the “bus” as the “organisation”:

  • Who is driving the bus?

  • Can they drive?

  • Does he know the route – path of least resistance?

  • Does he know when / where to stop the bus?

  • Who is the conductor on the bus and can he conduct?

  • Does he put the right people in the correct seats and sitting beside the right people?

  • Does he let the right people on or off at the right time?

  • Do the passengers like the seat that they are in?

  • Can the conductor offer them a better seat?

  • Do they find out if existing passengers can do anything else?

  • If they get off the bus too soon do we find out why?
